Oyo state discharge index coronavirus patient after testing negative

The Oyo state government has disclosed that it has discharged its index coronavirus patient.

The chief press secretary to the governor of Oyo state, Taiwo Adisa, confirmed this in a statement.

On March 21st 2020, Oyo state recorded its index case. The patient had a travel history to the United Kingdom.

According to the government, the patient has undergone complete treatment at the Agbami Chest Hospital isolation centre, Ibadan and has tested negative twice before his release.

“The American returnee had initially tested negative only for the second test to read positive,” the statement read.

“The index case had been on self-isolation at a private residence in Ibadan until he was transferred to the Isolation centre at Agbami, Jericho area of Ibadan on March 23.

“The index case was released after two consecutive negative tests.”

According to another statement by Taiwo Ladipo, the state’s incident manager, the confirmed index case spent six days in the isolation centre and had two negative tests.

Ladipo said “the released patient is well and very stable and is now back to his house,” it said

“He posited that the infectious disease specialist would be reviewing the patient for follow up action.”

The government also advised the general public to stay safe by heeding to proper hygienic practices and follow social distancing.

You will recall that Naijahomebased reported that the governor of the state also tested positive for the disease on Monday and he is currently in self-isolation.

Currently, Nigeria has 135 confirmed cases of COVID-19 with two deaths recorded so far.

Of the 135 confirmed cases, Lagos state has 81, FCT has 25 and Oyo has eight cases.

The Lagos state government has discharged eight patients having recovered from the disease.

Other states that have records of confirmed cases include Osun state with 5 confirmed cases.

Ogun 4 cases. Kaduna state has three cases. Edo, Enugu, and Bauchi states have two cases each.

Also among the list of states is Ekiti, Rivers and Benue states. Three of these states have recorded one case each.
