Rema Isn’t Dead: Here’s the Reason People Thought he was

There was panic all over Nigeria yesterday. Music lovers woke up to the shocking news of Rema’s supposed death. However, in a fortunate turn of event, the young singer is very much alive, hate and hearty.

But what caused the panic in the first place?

Yesterday, a Google Search on ‘Rema’ displayed a Wikipedia article saying: “Rema (musician) Divine Ikubor (born May 1, 2000), and died on February 1, 2020 at 12:29 a.m. [known] best known as Rema, is a Nigerian singer and rapper.

Now, if you look at the text carefully, you’ll notice so many grammatical blunders. In the real sense, you’ll hardly ever find such blunderous articles on one of the world’s most meticulous information websites.

Now, some would ask, “why would Wikipedia make such a mistake?”

Basically, Wikipedia is a wiki. In other words, a user-generated website. That means regular people can visit the website, create an account and edit the articles therein.

So, it was most likely a deliberate act by someone with malicious intentions.

Here’s what Rema’s Manager had to say: “Death is not something one can hide! Some hackers got access to his official account and spread the rumour. He is hale and healthy, he is fine. We don’t want to blow this out of proportion” he said.

Although the article was subsequently modified, the deed was done; so many people were already in shock. In fact, I’m sure some people must have started crying already.
