RMD washes dishes to promote gender equality as he launches #HeForShe Challenge

Nigerian veteran Richard Mofe-Damijo has launched a challenge on Instagram and has called on his friends to follow suit.

In a picture he shared, he captured himself doing the dishes along with a caption urging men to help out with chores as well and not leave everything to the women.

“Being an only child, I was raised by my Mom to do all chores,” he wrote.

“So the issue of only the wife (woman) should cook, clean, wash might be alien to me but I know it is not to most men.

“Which is why today I join my voice to the #HeForShe campaign and remind our men that #GenderEquality is not just in the workplace but at home.

We can find a good balance between office work and house chores, especially during this lockdown period.

I challenge my friends @bankywellington, @Delemomoduovation, @officialbovi, @aycomedian, @Alibabagcfr to do the same and tag me @mofedamijo and @HeForShe using the hashtags #HeForShe #GenderEquality #HeForSheAtHome
#HusbandMaterial.

“We are in this together #RmdSaysSo,” he added.

Well, it remains to be seen if the “typical African men” will take part in the challenge.

As many people already know, the African culture is a bit different from what we see and hear going on in the western world. A typical African man is of the mentality that the kitchen and anything that has to do with it is woman’s business and not the man’s.

That was clearly put in display when president Muhammadu Buhari said the first lady belonged to the kitchen and the other room.
