Single mother-of-three jumps into Osun River over Coronavirus lockdown

A woman identified as Kafayat Alake jumped into the Osun River in Osogbo, Osun State in an attempt to commit suicide.

Kayafat, a single mother-of-three embarked on the suicidal mission over her inability to cater for her children anymore due to the lockdown.

This incident happened on the 1st of April, just a few hours after the state government imposed a lockdown order in the state.

The lockdown order was part of the measures the government is undertaking to limit the spread of the deadly novel coronavirus.

She did not drown, thanks to residents of the Aregbesola area of Osogbo who intervened on time and rescued her.

According to reports, passersby noticed her strange movement on the bridge and when she jumped into the water they raised an alarm.

The youths in the area quickly jumped into the water and rescued the woman.

A resident speaking about the incident said they initially thought she slipped and fell, however, it was later discovered that it was an intentional suicidal attempt.

The resident then disclosed that he jumped into the water to rescue her before the other youths joined him.

Speaking to reporters, the rescued woman said she is from Alapaaro, Isale Osun, Osogbo.

She also revealed that she has three children and could no longer cater for then due to financial crisis.

Speaking of her husband, she stated that he stays in Lagos and further revealed that they got separated thirteen years ago. 

The O’Ambulance team of the state later rushed her to a nearby hospital.
