‘The Reform of SARS is long Overdue’ – Atiku Abubakar Says

Former vice president of Nigeria Atiku Abubakar has called for the reformation of the Nigeria Police, especially the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).

This is coming after the recent waves of violence and protest that has hit Sagamu following the death of Remo Star player, Tiyamiyu Kazeem.

According to Tiyamiyu Kazeem’s friend, a SARS officer pushed him out of a moving vehicle into the road, after which a speeding vehicle hit him.

However, the Police Public Relations officer denies that, claiming the player tried to run away after they arrested him.

“The reform of the Nigeria Police, especially the SARS unit, is long overdue. The @PoliceNG is meant to protect the life and property of our citizens and not to put them into harm’s way,” Atiku Abubakar said.

Meanwhile, the IGP has ordered the Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) to take over the investigation.

Nevertheless, several Nigerians continue to express scepticism over the way the Nigeria Police is handling this case.
