Nigerian activist, Reno Omokri said that there is no biblical backing to closing eyes during prayer.
Reno Omokri took to his Instagram page to make this revelation. According to the activist, closing eyes while praying is not biblical.
This is after his visit to Ethiopia. Reno said he attended church in Ethiopia and there, he got this revelation.
He said when he visited Ethiopia, he attended an Orthodox Church where he joined them in prayers.
The priest asked the congregation to pray, then him, being a Nigerian, closed his eyes to pray.
However, a priest approached him and revealed to him that the act of closing the eyes is not biblical.
According to him, the priest asked why he was closing his eyes, and he replied ” because we are praying.”
Then the priest asked him “where do you see that in the scripture?” But Reno could not provide an answer, “he was speechless”.
Also, he noted that the Ethiopians were the oldest Christians in the world “they became Christians a year after Christ’s death, he said.
Moreover, he noted that the act of closing the eyes during prayers is a European tradition.
Reno said it is a European tradition that originated from the practice of making petitions to kings.
“So many traditions we think are scriptural, are not!” the former presidential aid added.
