A video making rounds on social media show the moment a student was ordered by a teacher to destroy several phones.
The incident which occurred at Federal Girls College Akure, Ondo State, has attracted mixed reactions from Nigerians.
Generally, phones are prohibited at boarding schools. As such, whoever violates is usually punished and their phones seized. In this video, though, the teacher opted against just seizing the phone and returning them maybe by the end of the term.
Instead, she ordered one of the students to destroy several of those phones.

I understand that mobile phones are prohibited in some boarding schools, but asking students to destroy their phones by themselves is not fair enough, especially after they had suspended them from the hostel. This is Federal Girls College in Akure. pic.twitter.com/13LkW8gA0Y

Several people expressed support for the teacher for ordering the destruction of those phones. However, some referred to it as “barbarism” in the name of discipline.
From all indications, there is an even distribution of those in support and those against.
