Published on

Adele Laurie Blue Adkins, popularly referred to as Adele, is a multi-award winning singer and songwriter from Britain. Ever since her emergence in the grand stage, she has gone on to release several chart-topping albums and singles in the UK, US, Europe and beyond.

But there’s so much more to this iconic singer, superstar and role model, and I’m sure you’re interested in finding out what they are. We will, however, start from the very little & basic information regarding her age, place of birth, and early musical career before diving deep into the 12 other cool facts you might be interested in finding out about her.

Adele’s age, place of birth & early life

Adele was born on the 5th of May, 1988, in Tottenham, London, United Kingdom to an English mother, Penny Adkins, and a Welsh father, Marc Evans; and is therefore aged 30.

The 30-year-old and her sister, Catherine Allen, were both raised by just their mother after their father left home and never came back when Adele was just two years old.

Adele spent most of her childhood days in London, where she was born; and Brighton, where her mother once worked as a furniture maker and an adult-learning activities organizer.

Unlike a vast majority of kids who spent their days reading their favourite children storybooks, Adele spent a huge chunk of her early days singing and writing songs. Her mother was highly supportive of her musical talent and was at hand to purchase musical CDs of some of the biggest stars in the world as at then. All those activities proved helpful in sharpening her to the singer she is today.

Musical career

In another forward step aimed at actualizing her musical ambitions, Adele got enrolled into the BRIT School for Performing Arts & Technology in Croydon, where she was classmates with Leona Lewis and Jessie J, and graduated in 2006.

Four months after graduation, she published two songs on platformsmagazine.com. Meanwhile, her very close friend also published the 3-song demo she had recorded on Myspace and it became very popular on the platform.

Through that demo, she got a phone call from Richard Russell who made clear his intentions to sign her up for XL Records. Everything felt so unreal to her to the point that she had to go with a friend when she first visited the office of the record label.

Fortunately, she got signed up by XL records and was placed under the management of Jonathan Dickins.

Adele’s debut album, 19, was released in June, 2007; which turned to be a huge success to the point of topping British charts for several weeks. After then, she has gone ahead to release several other successful albums and chart-topping singles. Majority of her songs are targeted at the following genres: blue-eyed soul, pop, and R&B.

Adele’s net worth – $69 million

According to the 2017 rating which still appears in Adele’s Forbes profile, she has a net worth of $69 million. A fortune she realized entirely from her musical endeavours, as she’s not know to have any brands or any other forms of businesses. In other words, she makes her money from lucrative record deals, musical tours and awards.

Weight – 82 kg (181 lbs)

At some point in her musical career people started asking several questions concerning her continual weight-gain – leading to several interesting quotes from her, examples are:

I don’t make music for eyes. I make music for ears

I have insecurities of course, but I don’t hang out with anyone who points them out to me.

People are starting to go on about my weight but I’m not going to change my size because they don’t like the way I look.

I like having my hair and face done, but I’m not going to lose weight because someone tells me to. I make music to be a musician not to be on the cover of Playboy.

The focus on my appearance has really surprised me. I’ve always been a size 14 to 16, I don’t care about clothes – I’d rather spend my money on cigarettes and booze.

In spite of the numerous derogatory comments targeted at her because of her size, she kept her head straight and hit back at critics at every slight opportunity. This makes her a role model for the heart and not for magazine covers.

Through her comments, many other people who can do little about their weight-gain started accepting themselves the way they are and avoiding getting downcast by negative comments.

Quite an inspiration, don’t you think?

Adele – husband & children

Adele is not very much a fan of publicity stunts and as a result keeps a vast majority of details regarding her personal life away from public eyes. However, in the summer of 2011, it was confirmed that Adele was seeing Simon Konecki; and they gave birth to a son, Angelo, on the 19th of October 2012.

As observed by tabloids, the pair were noticed wearing matching rings in the early parts of 2017 increasing suspicions that they got married secretly. Those suspicions were later confirmed during her acceptance speech in the 59th Annual Grammy Awards for the best album of the year when she referred to Konecki as her husband; she further clarified things in a concert in Brisbane by telling fans “I’m married now”.
