Hamza Al-Mustapha who was the Chief Security Officer of General Sani Abacha from November 1993 to June 1998 believes reports of Abacha loots are all lies.
According to him, other people who came into power after his regime are responsible for the looted funds.
He, furthermore, stressed that the accusations against his former boss are instigated by some of the many people he stepped on their toes.
He said all this and more during an interview on the Hausa Service of the Voice of America.
VOAhousa took to Twitter to share a snippet of the interview along with a Tweet saying, “Major Hamza Al-Mustapha denies that Abacha stole US dollars.
In addition to saying all that, he said if Nigeria was to really fight against corruption many people would be arrested.
“But before Abacha died, our foreign reserve rose to over $900 billion. All the money being repatriated were those stolen by some leaders who served after Abacha’s death,” the former CSO said.
He continued saying, “The late Abacha’s successors in the Presidential Villa were the thieves who stole the billions and hid the money elsewhere.
He also added that he was forced to implicate the leadership of the defunct PFT under the military era of Buhari.
“I was forced to implicate the leadership of the defunct PTF under President Buhari then, during the military era,” Al-Mustapha continued.
“If there will be a genuine fight against corruption in Nigeria, many people will be arrested,” he added.
