Court sentences bishop to 5 years in prison for diverting N69m pilgrims welfare fund in Adamawa

An Adamawa State High Court has sentenced ex-Executive Secretary of Adamawa State Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board, Bishop Jinga Mayo to 5 years imprisonment.

The court found him guilty of Abuse of Office, which saw him divert the sum of N69 million meant for the board.

According to NewTelegraph, Jinga was arraigned before an Adamawa State High Court by the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).

Justice Nathan Musa of the high court sentenced the former Executive Secretary, Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board (CPWB) to five years imprisonment without an option of fine.

The court also sentenced Mayo to six months imprisonment with N50,000 option of fine. Meanwhile, all of his jail terms will run concurrently.

Bishop Jinga diverted the money meant to settle the entitlements of the committee members of 2016 pilgrims.
