The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has arrested Muhammed Audu, son of the late Prince Abubakar Audu.
According to the Nigeria anti-graft agency, he was arrested on Tuesday for “his alleged involvement in a fraud.”
According to a statement released by the EFCC, he allegedly diverted funds that amount to several billions of naira.
“The operatives have arrested Muhammed Audu, son of the late Prince Abubakar Audu, a former governor of Kogi State, for his alleged involvement in the fraud,” the EFCC said.
“The suspect was arrested on Tuesday, February 18, for allegedly diverting the funds to the tune of several millions of United States Dollars and billions of Naira, which were donated to the Nigerian Football Federation to his personal use.
“Investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly used two of his companies, Mediterranean Hotels Limited and Mediterranean Sports, to divert the funds, which he could not account for,” the statement added.
Furthermore, the EFCC plans to charge Muhammed Audu to court as soon as the investigation is complete.
Muhammed Audu is the eldest son of late Prince Abubakar Audu who was governor of Kogi state former governor of Kogi State.
Prince Abubakar Audu was in office for two tenures; the first started from January 1992 until November 1993 and the second from 29 May 1999 to 29 May 2003.
