Derek Chauvin, the cop at the centre of Minneapolis police brutality leading to George Floyd‘s death has now been arrested and charged with third-degree murder and manslaughter, according to Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman.
Derek stands accused of the murder of 46-year-old George Floyd who he subjected to a dangerous choke pin using his knee.
He was together with the four officers at the scene of the crime previously relieved of his job. However, many people found that insufficient and called for stricter punishment.
George was already handcuffed and didn’t appear to resist arrest. Therefore, people of different races took to the street to protest the seemingly racist behaviour of the cop.
Derek Chauvin kept his knee pinned down on George Floyd’s neck for 8 minutes and 46 seconds, according to a criminal complaint filed on Friday.
Based on the document released by the state of Minnesota, The Complainant charged Derek with murder and manslaughter which could collectively see him face up to 35 years in prison.
