Amaokpo community, Nike, in Enugu East Local Government Area of Enugu state was hit with a mysterious incident today as five members of a family of six were found dead.

They lived at City Estate layout, Enugu state.

The family of Dominic Onyekwere Chukwumalu that hails from Eziowelle, Idemili Local Government Area of Anambra.

According to The Nation, they went to sleep on the night of Monday, 27th April, however, they were discovered dead on Wednesday morning, 29th of April.

It was noted that their body was peeling off, indicating that they might have died of chemical poisoning or something of that nature.

In any case, people were ignorant of their death until somebody who worked with late Mr. Chukwumalu, who was a building contractor, went to look for him.

On getting to hte house, he found the house locked, however, his vehicle was parked outside.

On getting closer, he discovered that the deceased family members were all lying down dead.

According to witnesses at the scene, It appeared like the late Chukwumalu held his family together as if they were praying.

Apparently, the incident attracted neighbours, and they contributed money; broke into the house and brought out the corpses.

The police at Abakpa Nike, the Chairman of Enugu East, Hon. Alex Ugwu and the UN rescue mission reportedly went to the place to confirm the incident on Wednesday evening.

According to reports, while they were bringing out the corpses, one of the man’s children, Arinze, 10, shouted Jesus and was subsequently rushed to UNTH, Ituku-Ozala; he is responding to treatment.

The corpses of the deceased were kept at the National Orthopedic Hospital, Enugu State.

The South-East Zonal Commander of the United Nations Rescue team, Emmanuel Okoye while speaking to newsmen on Thursday said that somebody informed them about the incident.

Okoye told newsmen that they helped to take the corpses to the mortuary since the police have not arrived at the time the rescue team went to the scene.

Contacted, the Chairman of Enugu East Local Government Area, Hon. Alex Ugwu said their death could have resulted from food poisoning, seeing that there was no generator around.

He said, “When I heard about the incident, I alerted the police and the Ministry of Health to take charge.

“It was when the officials of the Ministry of Health were trying to evacuate the corpse that one of the man’s children sneezed and was discovered to be alive and was rushed to the hospital,” he said.
