A former Delta State University SUG president, Augustine Efebe, has drowned in River Abraka, located in Delta State.

According to eyewitnesses, Efebe went swimming along with some of his friends. Unfortunately, he swam towards a restricted area and his leg got tied up by a rope, preventing him from saving himself.

Local divers were called upon; however, they could rescue him alive. His body was retrieved from the river and has since been moved to a morgue.

Several of his friends have taken to social media to pay tributes to him.

“I still don’t want to believe it’s true but I have to,” Levi Nwanchinemere wrote.

“Efebe Onoriode Augustine was a man with a strong heart.

“You advised me after I emerged during my election. “We spoke…we played…we ate…we do things together and here you are nowhere to be found on earth.

“You did adviced sum1 as at yesterday to gv his life to Christ I just believe u did same before u left. It’s such a small world; how we live our life on earth that’s what counts mostIts so disheartenedRest in peace Comr Efebe Onoriode Augustine,” he added.

Another of his friend, Hon Prince Isire, shared his last profile picture pointing out that he urged people to stay at home to avoid the spread of covid-19.
