The governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has urged the Federal Government to relax the lockdown imposed on the state due to the outbreak of COVID-19.

President Muhammadu Buhari, during a broadcast on Monday, imposed a total lockdown on the state for two weeks.

However, Ganduje says the residents are already running out of food. Therefore, they need to relax the lockdown for a period of time so that people can stock their homes with enough foodstuff.

The Cable quoted him as making those remarks while speaking on Thursday during the inauguration of a panel of experts to support the state task force technical committee

“We would engage the presidential taskforce on COVID-19 to seek permission to relax the total lockdown imposed on Kano. We are making this appeal on behalf of our people who are presently running out of food items.

“We love the Federal government to relax the lockdown for a period of time to enable people [to] stock their homes, especially now that majority of us are fasting. It will also ease the economic hardship in the state,” he added.

Meanwhile, the state recorded by far more cases of COVID-19 than any other state yesterday.
