Being the most followed stand-up comedian in Africa doesn’t make AY free from trolls. As a matter of fact, it increases their number immensely.

It has now become clear that even success is incapable of shielding you from haters or people who will try to berate your hard work.

One of such trolls attacked AY, who is arguably the most successful comedian in Nigeria in a manner that could make someone lose sleep.

I mean, how do you tell someone like AY that his jokes are dry?

Well, a Twitter user, Olufisayo, did just that.

He wrote saying, “The countless oppressors in govt are the ones who buy ‘table for 1million’ at your shows & YOU NEVER ONCE called them out. All you do is some dry jokes in sutana, spit into microphones & kiss their a**es. Bloody hypocrite ni e, Ayo Makun. Twat.

What did AY do to deserve such a brutal message?

Well, it was because he came out to show support for Funke Akindele after Nigerians dragged her for hosting a full house party sequel to her arrest.

Funke Akindele hosted a full house part to celebrate her husband’s birthday and in the process contravened the social distancing directive by the government.

The popular comedian had written saying, “Yes nobody is above the law. But I wish those of you who called out Funke Akindele can do the same with your countless oppressors in government… even when the sky is filled with clouds, the sun still shines above. Funke Will rise AGAIN.”

Clearly, his comment which suggested that Nigerians don’t drag their politicians enough didn’t go down well with a lot of people. Ollufisayo was one of them.

Ayo Makun however responded the the troll in the most mattured manner you’d ever see. He didn’t resort to throwing back insults like several other celebrities would.

Instead, he responded saying, “I was humble enough to see my mistake, courageous enough to admit it, and wise enough to correct it. If u go beyond the insults and do ur research u will find out that 95% of d people buying my tables are not politicians. As for the dry jokes, they pay up to 5M too. It is called GRACE.

As regards using my platform…. kindly note that common facts of today can ONLY be the products of yesterday’s research. Don’t just cast the stones. Dig deep about the AY brand.

Actually, the comedian did apologise to Nigerians after his post attracted so many criticisms.

You’ll understand why Nigerians attacked him brutally. I mean, the global pandemic hasn’t been easy to face. Nevertheless, it is enough to criticize his comment and not his talent or success.

As a matter of fact, AY’s achievement cannot be overstated.

The popular comedian’s first movie production, 30 days in Atlanta, made it into the Guinness Book of World Records as one of the films with the highest domestic gross locally in the territories of Bollywood, Hollywood and Nollywood.
