How Rema Bought his mother a Car When he was just 17 Years Old

Published on

Nigerian singer, Divine Ikubor, popularly known as Rema, achieved something very few people on this planet can boast of. He was able to buy his mother a car when he was just 17 years old. Not just any car. It was an SUV; a Luxus Rx 330 which costs roughly N4 to N8 million, depending on the grade.

In November 2017, there was news on most of the popular blogs about a 17-year-old boy from Benin, Divine Ikubor, buying his mother a car.

Back then, he wasn’t this popular neither was he as rich as he currently is. Fast forward to 2 years later, he has now achieved so much success. Right now, he is considered one of the brightest talents in the Nigerian music industry.

But how was he able to achieve such a difficult feat?

During an interview with CapitalXtra, Rema revealed that he hustled really hard to the point that he travelled to Ghana when he was just 16 years old. While in Ghana, he worked at a bar beach, according to him.

Before travelling to Ghana, he was already making some money off singing unprofessionally. He participated in the popular Dream Alive talent hunt along with his former partner, Alpha P. They emerged victorious beating several other competitors.

Currently, the cash reward for dream alive is about N1.5 million, plus there are several other non-cash benefits.

Rema and Alpha P even released a song titled ‘Mercy’ after winning Dream Alive, which earned them interviews with Channel TV and E.tv

It is, however, not clear how exactly Rema raised enough money to buy the Lexus RX 330.

In any case, what is clear is that the young Divine Ikubor values his mother dearly.

What makes this even more remarkable is the fact that he didn’t have a car himself when he bought his mother one. According to him, he couldn’t afford to see his mother trekking and he didn’t have much to do with money since he was just 17 years old.

Furthermore, it is not like he was already rich when he did it. In fact, he said he couldn’t afford to buy expensive wars back then. All he did was spend the remaining money on studio sessions, making use of downloaded beats.

It is safe to say honouring his mother in such a way opened the doors of blessings for him. Because shortly after that, Don Jazzy’s Brother D’Prince got in touch with him after seeing his freestyle and signed him to Jonzing World, a subsidiary of Mavin Records. Right now, his songs are played all over the world.
