The National Identification Number (NIN) is a highly important piece of information. You need it to carry out several important transactions.
For instance, a new directive from the Nigerian Communication Commissions (NCC) makes it mandatory for all phone users to link that NIN with their phone numbers.
Maybe you’ve forgotten your NIN and want to retrieve it. If so, follow the steps below to do that.
Take note that using the steps below to retrieve your NIN will cost you N20 only.
How to recover your NIN using USSD
- Dial *346# on your phone.
- From he options you get, select “NIN retrieval” by typing 1 and sending.
- Wait for the network to display your NIN and then copy it somewhere safe.
You must complete the steps above using the line you have registered with the National Identity Management Commission. Carrying out the process above will not work if you did not register your SIM following the above steps.
What to do if you no more the SIM registered with NIMC
If you no longer own the SIM you have linked to your NIMC profile, then it is highly recommended that you carryout welcome back if possible.
Visit your network provider’s office to complete the welcome back process.
Alternatively, visit an NIMC office near you, and complain that you no longer own the SIM card linked to your NIMC profile.
The officer in charge will help you with the information you need to retrieve your National Identification Number.
