Imam arrested for allegedly drugging and raping a boy, 12, in Abuja

An Imam, who is also the Chief Pharmacist at the National Hospital Abuja, has been arrested for allegedly drugging and raping a 12 year old boy.

42 years old Abubakar Danraka, who is an Imam and a Ph.D holder, allegedly drugged and raped a 12-year-old boy in Abuja.

The suspect, Abubakar Danraka, is also the Special Assistant (Technical) to the Director General of the National Institute for Pharmaceutical Research and Development (NIPRD), Abuja.

He allegedly drugged the little boy before before forcefully having anal sex with him.

The National Agency for The Prohibition of Trafficking In Persons (NAPTIP) disclosed that the offense is contrary to the Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Act 2015.

“A 42 year old male resident of Spring Valley Estate of the Federal Capital Territory Abuja, Pharmacist Abubakar Mustapha Danraka (pictured) has been arrested by Operatives of the National Agency for The Prohibition of Trafficking In Persons (NAPTIP) for alleged sodomy,” the statement obtained by The Nation read.

“Dankara, who has a PhD, was arrested after he had an anal sexual intercourse with a 12 year old boy (name withheld).

“This offence is contrary to the Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Act 2015”

“Mr. Abubakar Danraka who works at the National Hospital, Abuja as Chief Pharmacist is currently the Special Assistant (Technical) to the Director General of the National Institute for Pharmaceutical Research and Development (NIPRD), Abuja.

“Apart from being a Pharmacist, Mr. Abubakar who hails from Zaria, Kaduna State is also an Imam in the Mosque within his estate.

According to the statement signed by the Head, Press & Public Relations Unit or NAPTIP,  Stella Nezan, the crime took place on the 21st of March.

Mr Abubakar gave the unsuspecting boy a glass of water to drink which contained some drugs.

Then, he forcefully had intercourse with the boy and warned him not to disclose it to anybody. Upon reaching home, his mother noticed he was uneasy and queried him, which led to him opening up on what happened.

“She and the father rushed him to the National hospital, Abuja where he was admitted,” the statement continued.

“The victim was discharged on Thursday 26th of March, 2020 after spending five days in the hospital.

Meanwhile, the suspected denied committing the crime, according to NAPTIP. However, the evidences gathered suggest he is guilty of the offence.

“Subsequent investigation at the home of the suspect also corroborated the narration of the victim especially with the colours of the furniture in the suspects’ sitting room as well as the setting of the place,” the statement added.

Meanwhile, an investigation into the crime is ongoing.

Director-General of NAPTIP, Dame Julie Okah-Donli, expressed surprise at how a man of that statue would be capable of committing such a heinous crime.

To that effect, she urged parents to be careful about who they let their children spend time with.
