Kidnapped INEC Official in Cross River Freed

According to a statement by the Resident Electoral Commissioner(REC) for Cross River State, Dr Alalibo Johnson, an official of the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) who was kidnapped yesterday, the 25th of January 2020 has been released.

The Kidnappee who was the supervisory presiding official was kidnapped during Saturday’s re-run elections for Yakurr/Abi Federal and State Constituency in Cross River State regained his freedom today.

According to Dr Alalibo, who confirmed his release stated that he wasn’t released any election material; sensitive or non-sensitive; and not even with his personal belongings.

Dr Alalibo also stated all other staff deployed for the election have returned safely, and that there was no life lost; however, a police officer sustained injuries during the course of the attack.

We recently reported a suicide bomb attack in Borno state that Killed a 12-year-old boy and left several other people injured.

The attack took place in a mosque in Gwoza, Borno State.
