Two men who paraded themselves as soldiers have been arrested by the Lagos State Police Command after they allegedly killed a policeman.

The two fake soldiers identified Kehinde Elijah and Eze Joseph shot the police officer, Onalaja Onajide, who was attached to Ilemba Hausa Division, Ajamgbadi on May 10.

The suspects were apprehended at the weekend by a team led by Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Yahaya Adesina and a Chief Superintendent (CSP) who reportedly witnessed the murder incident.

According to reports by The Nation, Elijah was dismissed for deserting the battle against the insurgents in the Northeast. However, he went on parading himself as a soldier.

The Police had earlier impounded a motorcycle belonging to the suspect. Later that day, an SUV was spotted carrying men dressed in military uniforms around the division. Shortly after, Sergeant Onajide was shot dead.

Elijah who showed at the division several times in full military attire was then arrested after the DPO suspected he was an impersonator.

During interrogation, he confessed to deserting the army with his firearm, three military uniforms and several other military gadgets.

Three other impersonators that were traced to his residence fled and the police recovered three other army uniforms, according to a source.

Police spokesperson, Bala Elkana, confirmed the arrest, stating that an investigation is still ongoing.

“He was shot by some hoodlums. We have suspects in our custody with respect to that case and we are trailing others. An investigation is ongoing,” he said.
