In her own words, she began writing for hobby at the age of 10; little did she know it would turn out to be her source of livelihood.

The 43 year old blogger finished from secondary school, Lagos Anglican Girls Grammar school, in 1997, at the age of 16 and in the following year was enrolled for a degree course in English-language at the University of Lagos (UNILAG).

As a result of coming from a middle-class family she had to work part-time as a waitress in order to support herself through school.

Early stages

After graduating in 2004 she took up a career in modeling; representing and working with several popular modeling brands in Nigeria.

However, at a point she lost interest in modeling and according to her, couldn’t keep up with the commitments required to become a model.

We then went into the business of recruiting and training other young models which she also ended up abandoning to pursue a career in blogging.

In 2006, Linda Ikeji started a free blog on the Google-owned BlogSpot platform. Through her blog, she shared details of happenings around her community in Lagos and with time around Nigeria and beyond.

She had to work from a café due to the fact that there was limited provision for the cheap data plans now available in Nigeria.

As at then, very few people knew blogging to be a lucrative career; and Linda Ikeji herself also started her blog as a medium to put her writing hobby into practice.

After experiencing steady growth and recognition blogging from a café in 2006, it gave her the impetus to go full-time into blogging the next year, 2007.

She began to write more consistently and, as a result, her blog continued to experience steady growth.

By 2010, Lida Ikeji’s blog had hit limelight. It was estimated to be getting around 1 million unique monthly visitors.

People from all work of life visited her blog to read gossips and exciting stories about their favourite celebrities from around the world.

With such massive growth came an increase in her blog revenue. Google monetized her blog with Google AdSense and other sponsored banners.

Controversies

Linda Ikeji has been criticized on several occasions for adopting a controversial style of blogging.

Several celebrities including Wizkid, Funke Akindele, Davido and many more were at some points in disagreement with one or more publications on her blog.

Another controversial post was the #SaveMayowa campaign which drew several unwanted attention to her.

The spotlight moment of it all was when Google shut down her blog on the 8th of October 2014.

The shut down was due to one or more of her articles violating certain Google terms of use.

However, her blog downtime only lasted for 2 days. On the 10th of October 2014, around midnight, Google restored her blog back online. But Google didn’t disclose the exact reasons for shutting it down.

Meanwhile, Kola Ogunlade, a Google correspondent, said this in a statement “We take violations of policies very seriously as such activities diminish the experience for our users.

“When we are notified of the existence of content that may violate our Terms of Service, we act quickly to review it and determine whether it actually violates our policies. If we determine that it does, we remove it immediately,” he added.

The statement from Kola Ogunlade sounded more like a general speech and not directly stating what policy Linda Ikeji indeed violated, leaving her fans on the guessing side.

Moving from the BlogSpot platform

Previously, Linda ikeji’s blog was lindaikeji.blogspot.com, a free domain name from Blogger/ This is as a result of moving her blog from the BlogSpot platform, probably as a result of threats from Google to shut down her blog permanently if it ever violated Google’s terms of use.

Linda Ikeji’s relationship

Her relationship has been subject to several speculations; however, no one was able to pinpoint who she was actually dating until shortly after giving birth to her son.

She named her son Jayce Jeremi which helped confirm the rumours that she was indeed dating Sholaye Jeremi, an Itsekiri man from Delta State; a successful investor in the Nigerian petroleum business.
