NCDC announces 51 new COVID-19 cases in Nigeria; Nationwide tally now 493

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has announced 51 new cases of coronavirus, taking the nationwide tally to 493.

32 of the newly confirmed cases are in Lagos State, which is by far higher than its closest for the day, Kano, recorded 6 cases.

There are 5 new cases in Kwara while Abuja, Oyo and Katsina have 2 appiece.

Finally, Ogun and Ekiti states have 1 case each.

Lagos, which is the epicentre of Nigeria’s outbreak boasts nearly 60 per cent of the overall tally. Several of the states featured above have been on lockdown in a move to throttle the increasing number of cases.

Meanwhile, today’s 51 new cases is the highest confirmed increase in infection for a single day.
