Nigeria has confirmed the first COVID-19 case in Lagos state. The patient who tested positive on Thursday is an Italian national who works in Nigeria.
According to reports, he got back from Milan on the 25th of February and showed mild symptoms of the disease.
Thereafter, the Virology Laboratory at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, which is part of the Laboratory Network at the Nigeria Center for Disease Control, confirmed the illness.
With this, Nigeria is the third African country after Egypt and Algeria and the first in Sub-Saharan Africa to confirm the disease.
Meanwhile, the government of Nigeria are working to identify all the people who had close contacts with the Italian.
Also, the NCDC has announced a toll-free number through which nationals can contact them for enquiries and updates.
