The NYSC coordinators for Gombe, Kaduna, Ebonyi, Ekiti and Sokoto state all made their respective annoucements on the number of corp members that will have to repeat NYSC.
According to The Punch, a total of 49 of them were accused of absconding and therefore ordered to repeat or given an extension.
The Batch A corps members of the aforementioned state were supposed to pass out yesterday, as it was the day of their Passing Out Parade. However, following the various infractions they are accused of, they will not be able to do that.
Basically, those who absconded will automatically repeat NYSC while those who committed one offence or the other worthy of an extension will have to continue the service for a stipulated time frame.
The National Youth Service Scheme is a compulsory One-Year programme for graduates. As such, defaulters often face certain consequences.
The number of corp members repeating the service year all over Nigeria will most likely be higher than just 49. The figure above applies to just the states mentioned.
