Osinbajo aborts official trip as accident kills his police escort

The convoy of the vice-president, Yemi Osinbajo, was involved in a ghastly accident. As a result, one of his police escorts, identified as Inspector Ali Gomina lost his life.

The 45-year-old was one of the riders who were accompanying the vice president to Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, where he was due to take a flight.

The vice president who, according to an official statement, is greatly saddened has called off his scheduled trip.

The Punch quoted Mr Laolu Akande, the spokesperson of Yemi Osinbajo as saying “With grief in our hearts, we announce the death of one of the police escort riders on the Vice-President’s convoy, Inspector Ali Gomina, aged 45, who was involved in a road accident while on official duty today.

“The accident occurred on the road to the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport. The Vice-President, who is greatly saddened by this occurrence, has aborted the scheduled trip.

He continued, “The Vice-President described Gomina as a diligent, hard-working and serious-minded officer who will be greatly missed by the team.

“He is survived by his wife, children, and relatives. May his soul rest in peace,” he added.
