General Overseer of the Holy Ghost Mission Church, Pastor Peter Alatake, was arrested for raping a 16-year old epileptic secondary school student.
The pastor was brought before an Owo Magistrate court in Ondo state.
According to reports, the 16-year-old girl was taken to his church for deliverance, but instead of delivering the girl, the Pastor ended up abusing the girl severally.
Alatake allegedly raped the girl between the 15 and 20th of April. The victim, as a result, developed complications in her vaginal and anus.
Results obtained from a medical test conducted at Medical Centre, Owo, affirmed the complications, consequently, the suspect was arrested.
The suspect was arraigned on a one count charge of wrongly having carnal knowledge of a minor
The offence is punishable under section 357 of the criminal laws of Ondo state.
In any case, the accused pleaded not guilty after the charge was read to him.
The state Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Adekola Olawoye declared the judgment of the state to prosecute him.
Counsel to the accused, Aderemi Adetula, solicited for bail taking into cognisance, the decongestion of prisons going on currently.
Adetula vowed to present reliable guaranties to make sure his client is available for justice to take its course.
The Presiding Magistrate, Olubunmi Dosumu, awarded bail in the sum of N500,000 and two sureties in like sum.
According to the magistrate, the sureties must be a General Overseer of a renowned church in Owo and a Director in the civil service with national identity card.
In addition to that, there should be proof of one year tax clearance and landed property in the magisterial district
The case was adjourned to 18th June 2020, for further hearing.
