PDP hails Supreme Court verdict on Bayelsa poll

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) through its National Publicity Secretary has hailed Wednesday’s judgment of the Supreme Court on Bayelsa Governorship election.

The party commendation the court in a statement by Mr Kola Ologbondiyan, its National Publicity Secretary, in Abuja.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has hailed Wednesday’s judgment of the Supreme Court on Bayelsa Governorship election.

Ologbondiyan, however, noted that the Imo case and that of Bayelsa are two different cases which were brought to the court on clearly distinctive grounds.

He further noted that while PDP was demanding for a review of the Imo state election, they were not in any way trying to contest the authority of the Supreme court.

According to him, they were only trying to assist the court in a nationalistic manner to correct the mistake in its judgement ruled in favour of the APC.

He said the court has given the results based on the confusing presentation made by the APC.

“It is, therefore, instructive to note that the various election matters before the Supreme Court were brought on clearly distinctive grounds and each should be treated on its merit before the law,” Ologbondiyan said.

Moreover, he said APC was pushing for a review of the Supreme Court’s legitimate and impeccable judgment on the Bayelsa and Zamfara Governorship elections just to cause confusion

He also noted that the APC was trying to blackmail the Supreme Court from treating the Imo case on merit.

He said “the only reason the APC was pushing for a review of the Supreme Court’s valid and flawless judgment on the Bayelsa and Zamfara governorship elections was to cause confusion and blackmail the Supreme Court from treating the Imo case on merit.

He said that the grounds for the reversal of Imo judgment were constitutional and completely different from APC’s requests on the Bayelsa and Zamfara elections.

The party, therefore, urged the Supreme Court not to succumb to the threats and blackmail to push it or restrain itself from looking at the merit of the Imo case; correcting the mistakes and reversing the flawed judgment,” he said.
