Police arrest ‘Kidnappers’ of Oyo Islamic Cleric Akewugbagold’s twins

Officers from the Oyo State Police Command has on Monday arrested suspected kidnappers of Akewugbagold’s twins.

Recall that NaijaHomeBased had earlier reported that the kidnappers freed the adorable kids after the family of the popular Islamic cleric met their conditions.

Seven persons believed to have orchestrated and initiated the kidnap have now been arrested by the state’s police.

The suspects were identified as Rildwan Taiwo, Rafiu Mutiu, Olumide Ajala, Fatai Akanji, Rafiu Modinat, Bashiru Mohammed and Opeyemi Oyeleye. 

The police commission of Oyo State, Shina Olukolu, confirmed that substantial parts of the ransom have been collected along with the guns they used for the operation.

“Two operational vehicles and one motorcycle were also recovered from suspects,” he said

The suspects held the 2-year-olds for 8 days and released them after their parents parted with the sum of N4 million, according to Olukolu.

Family had to part with N4 million to secure their release.

The cleric, Taofek Azeez AKA Akewugbagold, who the police for the arrest revealed that the two alleged masterminds, Opeyemi and Bashir, were his casual workers.

“They are casual workers introduced to me by Oriyomi Hamsat when I need social media handlers,” Premium Times quoted him as saying.

“They were just casual workers to me because I employed them based on some agreement which I fulfilled,” he added.

One of the alleged mastermind, Bashir, confessed to carrying out the crime and begged for forgiveness.
