The university disclosed this in a press statement by its Registrar, Mrs Olubunmi O Faluyi, on Wednesday 10th of June 2020.
The statement read, “Mr Godwin Nogheghase Obaseki, the Governor of Edo State graduated from the University of Ibadan where he studied Classics.
“Obaseki gained admission to the University in 1976 and graduated in 1979 with a Second Class Honours, Lower Division.
Furthermore, it stated, “Records of his Admission and Graduation are intact in the archives of the University.”
The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Mr Adams Oshiomhole, and the present governor threw shades at each other concerning Obaseki’s certificate.
In fact after the allegations Nigerians also joined in asking for Obaseki’s certificate. With various pictures making the rounds that the governor has a fake certificate.
The governor had through his spokesman, Crusoe Osagie, challenged Oshiomhole to go and confirm the legitimacy of his (Obaseki’s) certificate at the UI.
Obviously, the school has done their bit in clearing the air on the very controversial issue.
