Kellie Chauvin, who is the wife of former Minneapolis Police officer, Derek Chauvin, charged for the murder of George Floyd has filed for a divorce from him.
It is not clear whether or not they had ongoing issues before the heartbreaking footage of Derek pressing his knee on George’s neck.
Meanwhile, she offered her condolences to the family of the late George Floyd.
“This evening, I spoke with Kellie Chauvin and her family, abc News quoted her lawyer as saying.
“She is devastated by Mr. Floyd’s death and her utmost sympathy lies with his family, with his loved ones and with everyone who is grieving this tragedy. She has filed for dissolution of her marriage to Derek Chauvin,” the Sekula Law Office said in a statement Friday night.
“While Ms. Chauvin has no children from her current marriage, she respectfully requests that her children, her elder parents, and her extended family be given safety and privacy during this difficult time.”
The complaint against Derek Chauvin said he had his knee on George Floyd’s neck for over 8 minutes in total; 2 minutes and 53 seconds while the unarmed, handcuffed man was unresponsive.
He was charged with 3rd degree murder and 2nd degree man slaughter after he was previously dismissed as a police officer.
