Woman, 40, charged to court for not paying back church loan

A 40-year-old woman identified as Funmilaya Ayodele was charged to court in Ogun state for not paying back a loan she got from her church cooperative.

On Friday, she appeared at the Magistrates’ Court sitting in Isabo, Abeokuta, Ogun State.

According to Vanguard, she is accused of collecting N600,000 loan from a Church cooperative and refusing to pay back the money.

According to the Prosecution Counsel, Insp. Olu-Balogun Lawrence, the defendant committed the offence in February  2019 at Latoro Road in Abeokuta.

He alleged that she fraudulently collected N600,000 from Pastor Micheal Oguntade of Christ family Cherubim and Seraphim, telling him she wanted to use the money to open a business and promising to pay back in August.

In addition to that, Balogun accused the 40-year-old Funmilaya Ayodele of going to the house of the pastor with thugs and hoodlums to threaten him.

According to him, her offences contravened the provisions of sections 390(9); 419 and 86 of the Criminal Law of Ogun, 2006.

The Magistrate, Mr Olakunleyin Oke, granted the defendant a bail of N200,000 and then adjourned the case until Feb..21 for trial.
