Nollywood actress, Gbemi Anthonia Adefuye, better known as Toni Tones, has called on the popular practice in which a man pays bride price before marrying a woman to be scrapped.
As the name literally says, bride price means the price a man pays to the family of his partner before he’ll be able to call a woman his wife.
However, Toni Tones thinks that practice must be abolished, as women are not properties to be sold.
Bride prices can soar really high in some parts of Nigeria, making it really difficult for average earners to get married.
However, that practice is deeply rooted in African culture. Therefore, many people will consider it controversial to scrap.
In general, Toni Tones has received mixed replies to her demands.
In other reports, Reno Omokri also recently bemoaned the expensive cost of marrying, urging men to ditch paying bride prices and marry at the registry if their wive’s family attempt to exploit the opportunity.
