JAMB & WAEC Subject Combination for Marketing

Nigerian Universities have slight differences between their requirements for studying Marketing.

In general, though, candidates who want to study Marketing at any Nigerian University must have at least 5 credit passes in O’level, to include English Language and four other relevant subjects.

But as it stands, there is no generally applicable subject combination for Marketing since the various universities offer special considerations.

Therefore, keep reading to know the specific requirements for the school you wish to apply to before completing your JAMB registration.

Requirements for studying Marketing in Nigerian Universities

‘O’ level subject combination (WAEC, NECO, etc.)

To study Marketing at any Nigerian university, you must score at least 5 SSCE credit passes, which must include English Language, Mathematics, plus 3 other relevant subjects.

To put it differently, the NABTEB, NECO or WAEC subject combination for Marketing is English Language, Mathematics, plus 3 other social science, commercial or art subjects.

The 3 other subjects vary with universities. Read the special consideration for O’level stated below.

Special consideration for the O’level requirements

  • The University of Port-Harcourt (UNIPORT), Michael Okpara University of Agricultural Umudike, and Imo State University, Owerri (IMSU) require ‘O’ level credit in Economics.
  • Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU) has the same requirements for Marketing and Banking and Finance.
  • Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka (UNIZIK) requires Mathematics, Economics plus any other Arts or Social Science subject
  • Enugu State University of Science and Technology requires 5 credit passes to include English Language, Mathematics, and Economics, plus 2 other subjects in not more than 2 sittings.
  • University of Port-Harcourt (UNIPORT) does not accept commercial subjects.
  • University of Agriculture, Makurdi, River State University of Science and Technology (RSUST) and Ebonyi State University, Abakaliki (EBSU) have the same requirements for Marketing and Accountancy.
  • The University of Jos (UNIJOS) requires credit passes in English Language, Mathematics and any three subjects from Principles of Accounts, Commerce, Business Methods, Statistics, Government or Economics.

JAMB UTME subject combination

Candidates who wish to study Marketing at any Nigerian University must register for Use of English, Mathematics, Economics, plus any other relevant subject.

Special consideration for JAMB UTME subject combination

  • Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU), UNN and UNIUYO –Same as in Banking and Finance.
  • UNIZIK- Economics is not compulsory.
  • ESUTECH requires Economics and Commerce.
  • CALABAR does not accept CRK.
  • MAKURDI, RSUST, and EBSU – Same as in Accountancy.
  • EVANGEL accepts Mathematics or Economics plus any two relevant Arts or Social Science subjects.
  • LAUTECH requires any other two science subjects from Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Agric. Science.
  • UNIJOS requires Mathematics and any other two (2) subjects from Principles of Accounts, Commerce, Business Methods, Statistics, Government or Economics.

Direct Entry Requirement (A’Level)

To gain admission to study Marketing through Direct Entry, you need two ‘A’ level passes chosen from Accounting, Management, Geography, and Government.

Special considerations and waivers for Direct Entry Students

  • IMSU and UNIPORT – No Direct Entry
  • ESUTECH and COOU accept ND (lower credit) and also require Direct Entry applicants to possess UTME requirements.
  • EVANGEL and DELSU – As in Banking and Finance.
  • MAKURDI, RSUST, and UNN as in Accountancy & Banking and Finance.
  • ABSU requires ‘A’ level in Mathematics.
  • UNIUYO as in Insurance
  • EBSU accepts HND, NCE/ND pass at Merit level in relevant fields in addition to the ‘O’ level requirement. ND must be in Upper Credit level.
  • MCPHERSON accepts
    • JUPEB/IJMB/ATS (Final)of ICAN or approved equivalent in related disciplines.
    • AIB or three year Diploma or other professional qualifications in relevant fields.
  • LAUTECH requires ‘A’ level passes in Economics/Business Management, Chemistry, Physics, Geography, and Mathematics.
  • UNIJOS accepts
    • Passes at Advanced Level GCE, IJMB or an approved equivalent examination in Accounting, Business Management or Economics.
    • Holders of the following qualifications may also be considered for admission into 200 level: National Diploma (ND) in accounting, Financial Studies, Business Administration, Banking and Finance, Insurance or any other business course with a pass at not less than Lower Credit from any recognized Institutions (Polytechnic, Technical Institutions, e.t.c.).

Marketing JAMB cut off mark

In general, Nigerian Universities allow students to partake in their Post UTME for Marketing if they score a minimum of 180 in the JAMB UTME, which is the JAMB approved cut off mark as of 2019.
