Former governor of Ondo State, Olusegun Mimiko, has issued out a statement urging President Muhammadu Buhari to give poor Nigerians 20,000 naira each.

His made this call in respect to the economic mayhem the coronavirus pandemic has so far unleashed.

According to him, we shouldn’t complain of lack of data since there’s BVN, which according to him are nearly around 40 million.

Meaning, the federal government can access account information to know people who will be in dire need of the money.

Meanwhile, in his series of tweets, he revealed that if 20 million people qualify for N20,000 each, it will amount to just N40 billion.

We are quick to complain of lack of data, but we have BVN. I’m told we have 40million BVN accounts,” Mimiko said.

“Adopting a benchmark of the annual turnover of N360,000 and assuming that up to 50 per cent.

20million qualify for palliative, say N20,000 each, that will amount to just about N40billion which we must find.

Meanwhile, he commended ‘our frontline health workers’ working around the clock to contain the spread of coronavirus, Mimiko added.
