  • The supreme court of Justice has sacked David Lyon and his deputy
  • PDP’s contestant during the election Diri Duoye is the new Governor-elect
  • The judgement was reached by a five-man panel

Today, the apex court of Justice has reached a judgement on the controversial election that held in Bayelsa State recently.

According to Channels, a five-man panel led by Justice Mary Peter-Odlili reached that resolution. They ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission to forthwith withdraw the Certificate of return earlier issued to David Lyon and his Deputy, Biobarakuma Degi-Eremieyo.

The apex court ruled that the PDP had highest number of votes and possess the required constitutional spread of votes after Lyon and his deputy were disqualified.

Justice Ejembi Ekwo read the statement that announced the disqualification of APC’s deputy governorship candidate, Degi-Eremienyo, as a candidate in the election.

Last year, on November 12, 2019, the Federal High Court in Abuja had disqualified Degi-Eremienyo for submitting forged certificates to INEC. The judgement of the supreme court is in line with that ruling.

The disqualification of Lyon’s deputy Degi-Eremienyo infected the joint ticket they used in contesting and winning the election.

This report is coming in less than a month after the court annulled the election in Imo State, removing PDP’s Emeka Ihedioha instating Hope Uzodinma of the APC.
