The Requirements For Joining the Nigeria Civil Defence (NSCDC)

Want to know the requirements for joining the Nigeria civil defence? You’re are not alone; there are thousands of Nigerians looking to do the same. Therefore, we decided to provide this comprehensive list of the requirements for joining the NSCDC as obtained from the official website.

The full name of this paramilitary body is Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps. However, many people refer to it simply as Civil Defence or NSCDC.

So, if you had any confusion because of the varying names, I believe you now know they represent the same organization.

NSCDC was established in May 1967, with the role of protecting Nigerian civilians from domestic violence. Furthermore, the NSCDC is tasked with the responsibility of disaster management. That is, whenever there’s a natural or artificial disaster, officers of the institution will be deployed to affected regions.

Requirements for Joining the Nigeria Civil Defence (NSCDC)

General requirements

Regardless of your desired position, the general requirements for joining the Nigeria Security and Civil defence Corps include:

  • You must be a citizen of Nigeria by birth
  • You must possess the requisites qualifications and certificates, as any certificates or qualifications not presented and accepted at the recruitment center shall not be accepted after the recruitment.
  • In order to be considered, you must be fit and be able to present a certificate of medical fitness from recognized Government Hospitals.
  • You must be of good character, and must not have been convicted of any criminal offenses.
  • You must not belong to any secret society or Cult. Additionally, you must not be a drug Addict, etc.
  • Applicants must not have been involved in any financial embarrassment.
  • You must be between the ages of 18 and 30 years
  • Your height must not be less than 1.65m if you’re male, and 1.60m if you’re female.
  • Your chest measurement must not be less than 0.87 if you’re male.
  • Computer Literacy will be an added advantage

Specific requirements for the various positions

1. Medical & Health Services

Superintendent Cadre

The following positions are available under Medical & Health Services Superintendent Cadre:

  • Superintendent of Corps (SC) Medical Doctors, CONMESS 02
  • SC Dentist CONMESS 02
  • SC Optometrists CONMESS 02

Applicants to any of the positions above must be holders of M.B.B.S; M.D; M.D.S; or equivalent from recognized universities.

Inspectorate Cadre

  • If you wish to apply as Inspector of Corps (IC) Nursing CONHESS 07, you must be a Registered Nurse (RN), Midwife (RM) or Registered Nurse/Midwife (RNM), with a certificate from a recognized institution.
  • To apply to the Nigerian Civil Defense as an Assistant Inspector of Corps (AIC) CONPASS 06, you must possess a Diploma in Community Health, Medical Records, Pharmacy, Food and Nutrition, Health Education, Health Information Management, Laboratory, Environmental Technician and other Health/Medical related fields.

Assistant (CAII) CONPASS 04

Whoever wishes to apply as an assistant (CAII) CONPASS 04, under Medicals, must possess a Certificate in Community Health, Medical Records, Pharmacy, Food and Nutrition, Health Education, Health Information Management, Laboratory, Environmental Technician and other Health/Medical related fields.

2. General duty

Superintendent Cadre

To apply under General Duty Superintendent Cadre, you must be a holder of first degree from any recognized University in the following areas: Humanities, Social Science, Psychology, Estate/ Town Planning, Public Health, Food Sciences, Social Works, Security, Criminology and Operational Research, etc.

Inspectorate Cadre:

i. Senior Inspector of Corps (SIC), CONPASS 08

You need to have a Higher National Diploma (HND) Certificate obtained from a recognized institution.

ii Inspector of Corps (IC)

Interested applicants must be holders of NCE or its equivalent in any field or holders of Registered Nurses (RN), Registered Nurses/Midwives (RNM) obtained from recognized institutions.

iii. Assistant Inspector of Corps (AIC)

To apply for this position, you must be a holder of a National Diploma (ND) obtained from recognized Polytechnics/institutions, or holders of certificates in Community Health, Pharmacy and Health Education.

Assistant Cadre

i. Corps Assistant (CAII)

You must have a GCE Ordinary Level, SSCE/NECO or their equivalents with a minimum of five (5) credits in not more than two (2) sittings, which should include at least English and Mathematics.

ii. Corps Assistant (CAIII)

To apply for this position, you must be a holder of GCE ordinary level, SSCE/NECO or their equivalents with a minimum of three credits in not more than two (2) sittings, which include at least English or Mathematics or Trade Test Grade III. (Artisans, Motor Driver, Mechanics, Auto Electricians, Plumbers, Carpenters, Masons, etc).

3. Drivers/Mechanics

Assistant Cadre

i. Corps Assistant (CAII)

To apply as an Assistant Cadre, under Mechanic or Driving, you must be a holder of Trade Test Grade II. ( Motor Drivers, Mechanics, Auto Electricians, etc).

ii. Corps Assistant (CAIII)

To apply for this position, you must be a holder of Trade Test Grade III. (Motor Drivers, Mechanics, Auto Electrician, etc )

In addition to the requirements above, you need a National Driver’s Licence if you’re applying as a driver.

4. Artisan

Assistant Cadre:

i. Corps Assistant (CAII)

To apply for this position, you must be a holder of Trade Test Grade II. (Artisans, Plumbers, Carpenters, Masons, etc)

ii. Corps Assistant (CAIII) CONPASS 03

Applicants for this position must be holders of Trade Test Grade III. (Artisans, Plumbers, Carpenters, Masons, etc)
