Were it not for AdSense, blog monetization would have been a lot more complicated to pull off.

Ask most of the successful bloggers how they started earning online, 90% of them would tell you it was with AdSense.

Although you may visit blogs without Banner ads but still making thousands of dollars from affiliate commissions, most of them started with Google AdSense or alternative ad companies.

When we speak of blog monetization strategies, nothing much has changed.

AdSense still remains the easiest blog monetization strategy you can ever put in place.

Just keep publishing and watch your account balance grow.

It’s as simple as that.

So…

If you’re a newbie and yet to make your first dollar online, you can begin to do so the next minute you have Google AdSense setup on your blog.

But before then, let’s have an overview of all the basics you need to get going.

What is Google AdSense all about?

Google AdSense is a contextual advertisement program run by Google that allows registered publishers to serve targeted text, image, and video ads on their websites or blogs in return for getting paid for impressions or clicks on those ads.

Google AdSense was launched in June 2003; which makes it one of the oldest ways through which bloggers make money online.

Not too many people knew blogging to be lucrative because of how trickish blog monetization was.

As soon as Google AdSense was launched, it quickly gained recognition–because of the ease to register and earn with the program—provided your blog meets up with the requirements.

Some of the biggest sites in the world—like Forbes and WikiHow still use AdSense to monetize till date.

If you wish to make money with Google AdSense using a blog or website, follow the 5 easy steps below to achieve that.

Step 1. Create a blog

To begin to earn with Google AdSense on blogs, you must first create a blog—whether on a paid platform or on a free platform.

If you already have a blog, you can move to step 2; if not, you need to create one first.

I recommend you create a self-hosted WordPress blog because of the freedom and control you will get on your blog.

Follow my WordPress self-hosted blog setup guide to create your blog at a personally negotiated discounted rate.

If you are interested in monetizing a free blog, then the only platform I recommend you create a free blog on is Blogger.

Reason is…

AdSense works well with self-hosted WordPress blogs and wordpress.com blogs upgraded to business plans.

BlogSpot blogs and BlogSpot blogs setup with a custom domain can also monetize with Google AdSense.

Free wordpress.com blogs, however, cannot monetize with Google AdSense—as owners of free blogs are not allowed to carryout the customizations necessary.

Step 2. Optimize your blog for AdSense

It’s easy to monetize blogs with AdSense provided your blog meets up with Google AdSense requirements.

AdSense rejects thousands of applications that don’t meet up with its requirements on a daily basis.

A few of the requirements for getting AdSense approved on a blog include:

  • Publishing using a supported AdSense language
  • Avoiding copyrighted picture and content on your blog
  • Not displaying or liking to Adult contents
  • Not displaying or promoting any of the AdSense prohibited contents. etc.

Before AdSense accounts are approved, a manual review will be carried out on your blog to see if it violates any of the AdSense program policies.

If your blog violates any of them, your application will get rejected.

You can learn more about all the Google AdSense approval requirements in my previous publication.

Step 3. Register with Google AdSense

Once your Blog is AdSense ready, the next thing you need to do is to visit AdSense to apply for an account.

You can follow my step-by-step AdSense application guide to do so.

During application, it will be required of you to place Google AdSense verification code on your site to complete your registration.

Your blog will be reviewed and a feedback will be provided to you via email within 48 hours of applying.

If your account gets approved, you will receive a congratulatory email like the one below:

Step 4. Add AdSense to your blog

After getting an approved AdSense account, you need to add AdSense codes to several section of your site where you wish to see Google ads seen.

Google AdSense has a feature called auto ads that takes care of ads placement for publishers.

To setup auto ads, you only need to add one simple piece of code to your website, and from then you can focus on publishing while AdSense takes care of choosing the ad formats that fit each of your posts.

If you want to display ads in sidebars and some other areas or perhaps you don’t want to use the auto ads feature, you can create AdSense ad units in of different types and sizes, and add them wherever you want them seen.

There are basically three types of ad units:

  • Text & display ads
  • In-feed ads
  • In-article ads

The text & display ads come in different standard sizes and types. You are also allowed to create a custom size as per your needs.

Step 5. Withdraw your earnings when you reach payout threshold

The standard payout threshold for AdSense is $100. As soon as you’ve reached that limit, you’ll be eligible to make withdrawals from your AdSense account.

Before you make your first withdrawal, a verification pin will be sent to your location to confirm and fully verify your account.

And from then onward, you can begin to receive payments once in every month—provided you reach or exceed the payment threshold.

I hope with this guide you now know how to make money with AdSense on your blog.

  1. Quick adsense VS affiliate programs
I suggest to join (maxbounty-mostCPA-peerfly) and choose YOUR niche, suitable offers and then start write some blogs about those offers. I guarantee that you reach out your money goals. because
Affiliate marketing pays more than AdSense. … AdSense offers recurring income, whereas affiliate marketing pays once per shot. AdSense is managed by Google alone, whereas there are many large and small affiliate companies. Affiliate ads are more attractive, whereas we don’t have control over AdSense ads,
    for example:
an affiliate (Pay Per Call) offer pay you $9.66 per each call , just deliver the user who want to register with his Name and Tel Number on the LP and gets called by the call center. At that point the pixel is fired. so I think this type of affiliate program will monetize your blog and that’s only for one offer. I think it makes perfect sense for me.
last word, * in cpa affiliate programs don’t waste your time with free traffic sources & resources.

    • I agree with you on that San… CPA marketing is by far more lucrative and more rewarding than AdSense; however, one must admit that AdSense is a good place for starters. Reason is, affiliate marketing takes time to master and understand.

    • Many new AdSense publishers experience that same thing. Sometimes ads don’t show up immediately AdSense code is added to your site. If your AdSense account is truly approved and you are sure you added the code properly, then, there’s nothing to worry about. Ads will definitely show up soon.
